Not surprisingly, Goblins are one of the "bad guy" races in these stories.
Back stories include devastating Goblin Wars, where a lot of advanced WLP knowledge was lost when most of the WLP scientists were killed (and all too often eaten).
But that was all in the distant past, and all passages that joined the two realms (Goblin vs WLP) were long ago sealed (and, luckily, the primitive Goblins were really lousy at tunneling.)
In "present" day, Rikki goes on a camping trip at an underground lake where his father used to take the family. It is his first camp out with no grownups. He takes a couple of other characters his own age.
There is artificial sunlight that automatically dims at a certain time, simulating evening.
Rikki and his friends are the only ones camping this night, and accidentally discover a hunting party of Goblins. Somehow (we learn how later) the savages have gotten through the protection.
Picture darkness, quiet, cold, shadows and silhouettes, tall trees, rocks, chill wind... and a silent band of grim killers four times your size silently stalking past you on their way to wreak untold havoc on an unsuspecting, sleeping and nearly defenseless population of WLP.

Goblins have to have small skulls, big jaws/mouths/teeth. The body I see as almost modeled after the Hurons of Colonial America... just a little more compact.
The formatting while editing (or reviewing) these blog entries is not the same as the final product. During editing, the text is about the same width as the image. When displayed, the image takes up most of the width. This is due to the format I chose. I may need to try a different format - or use smaller images.
